    Ugh! Windows won't start

    Win98se

The Windows splash screen thing comes up, and then a blinking curser appears in the upper left hand corner and stays there. Normally my desktop appears just after that.

I can boot into Safe Mode just fine.

Just before this happend, Webshots freaked out. I restarted many times and this happens each time.

I'm sure re-installing Win would do it, but I'd rather not if I don't have to. I did remove Webshots from the startup folder, but still nothing......

Its best to not restart a bunch of times when that sort of thing happens... I don't remember the exact details on how to do this but its on the MS site... Win98 (and other newer versions) default saves 5 copies of your registry and if this happens you can boot to safe (or DOS... not sure which you use) and replace the registry with an older version from a day or so back and reboot normally.

Sorry I can't pull up how that is done right off, its been a couple of years since we had to do it. But each time you do that restart, it rotates the saved registry files and sounds like yours is already rotated out by now. You CAN reset the saves to a seperate directory and also save more than the default 5 sets of files tho.

Press F8 as the splash screen comes up and select the option from the menu that allows you to step through the startup sequence. You'll see if it hangs up on a particular step like loading a driver or such. If it does, reboot in safe mode and remove the driver that's causing trouble.
