Cable Modem Tweaking?

has anyone successfully done that?

my upload speed especially sucks badly... i'm happy with the download speed which goes like up to 250kb/sec but the upload speed is like 10-15kb/sec max.. and it slows down both my ping and my download speed a lot when i upload something..

is there a way to tweak it? how?

Depends on the modem, but yes, most DOCSIS (nearly all) compatable cable modems are "uncappable" for the most part.

Pretty much lazy cable modem firmware coders, which allow you to essentially poison the modem's arp cache and have a server on your network "become" the tftp server the CM downloads it's config file from (which is what contains the speed cap settings, among other things).

No, I won't help you. No, there are no (that I know of) scripts or tools out there that easily let you do it (yet).

Fair warning. A friend of mine (who actually figured this stuff out) did this and get caught at it. It's fairly easy to detect if you do any sort of uploading at all. I mean, when they see traffic spikes 10X what they should be for your upstream service class... Granted, they probably won't notice normal usage though.

Some RR was at&t some is still time warner.

At least in this area, RR is officially deader than a doornail on AT&T owned cable as of the 17th. We were all migrated to the ATTBI stuff.

goto www.dslreports.com and download a program called drtcp and check it out - it allows you to easily tweak speed settings, my cable modem now downloads anywhere from 700-1900 kb/s...they have some cool speed test and tweak test and some pretty informative tutorials and other info.

I have a cable modem and download speed ranges but can be over 200 KB per second, but when I upload to my host, the average is about 15 KB per second.

I always thought the upload speed has to do with the host, am I incorrect in believing this?

Hey, does anyone here have Roadrunner and have it time out all the time? I get this msg a lot "This page cannot be viewed"
or a weird dns error msg . I have to reboot my pc and try many times to get back on line. Anyone know how to fix this?

Where are you people getting these high figures? Are they from speed tests or actual download/upload speeds.

The speed tests I have taken show something like 1800 KB per second for downloads, but in actual downloads the highest is something over 200 KB per second and most usually around 150 KB per second.

The old lancity modems (your luck if you have one) have a chip in them that is used to restrict the speed. You can easily remove it.
I have one of those, where can one find some manuals/info on how to remove it?!

So many saying stuff that implies they know what they're talking about, yet they still call it a cable modem!
