You can make all the effects without plugins, just use the standard filters.

But if you really think you need the plugins then get
    Eyecandy, KPT 4, 5 and 6...

    Those are the main ones.

But if you learn photoshop enough you can just make the good effects using the filters nad channels etc.

    Good luck

Those plugins are useless. They are ok for eyecandy pruposes, and if you like playing with toys, but you wont find any use for them in real work.

I have bought a very few very specific plugins, but you wont find much use for them in web designing. I think photoshop gives you all you need, unless you really like to whizbang your designs, which most buyers probably wont like. It's better you spend money on a digital tablet - that'll help you a lot more.

And yes, make a lot of actions - anything requiring more than 2 steps and that you seem to use for many of your designs you record an action for it, and assign it a shortcut - will save you a lot of time.

Take a look at this (not by me!) -

                http://www.spiritpower.org/gallery/guitar.htm

No plugins, 3D, clipart - just plain old photoshop power.

                  http://bluedesignstudios.com/tutorials.php

and used an action plugin to place pics on film strip effects,,, which i thought was cool,,,,

i figured there was some more essentials

i just started out using photoshop seriously for like a week now

The third one is nice - good color selection. Of course with photoshop you'll only get better.

I had a ton of plugins before, but now, for a year, i don't use any plugins anymore, just genuine PS filters that come with the installation.
But plugins are useful for starters to make their creativity better

This is the list of plugins i recommend (i'm not sure if they all are shareware):
                      1. all KPT (Kai's Power Tools) plugins, i had 2,3,5,6,7 versions
                      2. Eyecandy
                      3. Xenofex
                      4. Alien Skin effects
                      5. Photographic Edges

these kinda the most expensive ones and my best ones as i remember

http://davinci.ice.org/index-0.html - take a look at the work of this PS guru

                      cheers
