    Cable or DirecTV?

When I had cable, I never had problems, not that I have DirecTV there is always something wrong and there customer service sucks. I am usually on hold with them for about 45 minutes just to get through.

Anyone have Cable. Did it get any better from years ago?

I have DirecTV. It's great and I have no complaints. Also I use the tivo service. You need to get that too, it's priceless (for only $5 more a month)

Recently I gave digital cable a try testing out the two pretty much side by side. I liked the navigation and tivo features from DirecTV. The digital cable was okay, the DVR sucks ass, but the 'on demand' stuff was very cool... being able to watch something at any time without the wait.

However I still like DirecTV better. If I were to go with Digital Cable I wouldn't get their DVR service. Instead I'd buy a tivo for cable and get the lifetime subscription for $250-300.

Tivo is great how it is. If want more out if it you can do that too by hacking the shit out of it. Adding another drive, putting FTP into the Tivo to download TV shows, etc etc. I don't watch that much TV but Tivo is just that bad ass.

That's what I've got, two ReplayTVs hooked up to full digital cable. I'm liking digital cable because I've got access now to about 20 HD channels, not sure how many directv offers.

Where I live, we have Comcast Cable. I have the works with mine... COMPLETE cable package (every freaking movie channel) and cable internet. With Comcast you get a feature called "OnDemand" and with that you can pick a show and watch it at anytime. You can also choose movies "On Demand" and Pay Per Views are the same way. It's pretty much TiVo, but it's free and through the cable company.

Pretty freaking cool, and it doesn't cost out the ass. I haven't had any issues with my cable or internet, unless there is a tornado.

They are basically the same now, both use MPEG4 compression schemes, hence the Jitter Scrambles.

I have both, and since I only use the satellite for Horse Races / NFL Sunday Ticket, I can't say much, but when it rains, it can get bad.

Digital cable can get some glitching in rain / snow storms, but not nearly as bad.

If you have Timewarner, they have a DVR service with their Digital Cable, so big ups.

Cable is generally better. The dish will go out periodically if it rains or snows, and there's a serious lag when you change channels. Depending on your location, cable will generally be a lot more reliable, though perhaps they don't offer quite as many options.

Would have gone with cable, but they dont offer it yet here in the middle of this cow pasture I live in Love the guide menu, but it took me a while to figure out how to filter out all the bullshit channels I would never watch and the ones I dont get on my plan

Thanks, I might have to trash my DirecTV if they don't give me a year credit on it.

Would have gone with cable, but they dont offer it yet here in the middle of this cow pasture I live in Love the guide menu, but it took me a while to figure out how to filter out all the bullshit channels I would never watch and the ones I dont get on my plan

You will eventually end up with all the channels. You will get sick of picking something and realizing you don't have it.

I have a 10' dish with a 4DTV receiver (traditional C & Ku-bands combined with subscriber digital) and an mpeg Free-to-Air receiver slaved to it. Downgrading to cable or a pizza dish would be slumming for me

I love DirecTV and Dish Network. Cable is too expensive, and I dont know if Comcast is available where you are, but they have the worst customer service I have ever dealt with....and they dont offer inDEMAND yet in LA.

After having Directv for 5 years I switched to cable. Its a better deal for the $$. With directv you have to pay for every receiver per month and if you have alot of rooms in your house it adds up. No receiver = No signal. You have to pay extra for the local channels too.

I also got mad with them because they CLAIMED 1 dish could support 3 receivers... and thats not true. 2 will have all the channels & the 3rd would be missing some stations. I dont want mulitple dishes outside my house.

With cable you can still get like 78 stations without a box in the rooms nobody hangs out in much.

I know if I still had Directv during these hurricanes we would have been without TV for a while. Our cable never went out.

Plus cable offers a good deal with the High Speed Internet/Digital Cable package.

                                                                      Cable.
