    Help with my computer..

My computer keeps freezing and a lot of time restarts by itself. I'm thinking of formating might resolve the problem, but I'd just like to know if theres something I could do before that to solve the prob. thanks

Are you getting any error messages?

If it is restarting by itself then you might have a loose connection somewhere.

Unplug the power and pop open the case and make sure everything is tightly seated.

If that doesn't work.....format that bitch.

Have you run a virus scan on it? Might check that first.

Go to the system alert logs and copy and paste that in a computer tech forum.

How frequent are the reboots? It may be as simple as the CPU fan burning out and the CPU is overheating...

It happens like 4-5 times everyday, and its really annoying. Its usually when I'm doing a a few things at the same time, but still, nothing too much. Like when I have a lot of internet explorer windows. I have windows xp on athlon xp 2600+ with 512ddr ram. I checked and have no virus.
Sometimes I also get this message:
The information at 0x77f59... referenced memory at 0x80. The memory could not be read. Click OK to terminate the program.

And when I click ok, it either freezes or restarts.

Anything I could do? Formating is my last resort as I will have to burn TONS of stuff on cds.

sounds like one of your memory

if you have 2 sticks .. try taking one out and replace it and take the other out..see if that helpsl... then you can eliminate which stick it is ...if that is the problem.

                      Right Click on My Computer
                      Goto Properties
                      Click the Advanced Tab
Click Settings under Startup & Recovery
Uncheck the box that says Automatically Restart
Under Write Debugging Information set the Memory Dump to (none)

This will not solve the problem but IF it is the hardware you will get the BSoD so that you can see what is causing you problems..

You can also check the Event Viewer by going to the Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Event Viewer. Click on System. Anything that has a red (error) or yellow (warning) icon needs to be fixed.
