Perl kicks a lot of ass, but is a poor choice for a web application.

PHP is good and Perl is good. It truly depends on HOW your programming is. :-)
We can do either equally. We like perl and know how to use it very well for fault tolerant and FAST systems. :-)

Php is sweet too though. :-)

                    I sell short scripts.

                    1st Affiliate

                    2nd Affiliate

                    3rd Affiliate

Perl is the most powerful scripting language on the web today. Its fast easy and gets straight to the point.

PHP is for newbies. Although I have written a few good PHP scripts as well.

                      hilarious.

Most people say that because they don't understand Perl. It's not as forgiving and newbie friendly as PHP.

Yeah, it's easier to learn to build something with PHP than
it is to learn to build something with Perl.
Similarly, it's easier to learn to build something with Legos
than it is to learn to build something with steel, bricks, etc.
A Lego car may be easier to build than a welded one but
the Lego car is a toy, while real cars are welded.
Real software isn't written in PHP.

Anyway, I've been programming porn since 1997.

I dont know about that, Mod-perl is much w/MVC is much nicer then php. Most of the templating systems with mod-perl (template-toolkit, mason, apache::asp) are pretty robust.

I never embrace anything proprietary, so the answer is no.

I'm fluent in PHP as well as Perl and C++. I'm not talking out of my ass when I say that Perl is more powerful and flexible. Let me guess, all you know is PHP, huh?

Im no expert in php, but if you ever wanted to install...hmmm...lets say the imagemagik libraries into php, you would have to recompile php. Where as with perl, all you need to do is install the modules, and start using it.

Thats one reason why I like perl better. There's also the persistant database connections with DBI, excellent regex functionality, and better website performace (w/mod-perl)
