need to know resolutions please

Hey everyone, I'm redesigning Webmaster Vault and I want to design it wider than 800x600 because i feel that most adult webmasters use a greater resolutions, so if you guys could help me out and use the poll to see if this is a good idea that would be great. thanks!

I see more and more sites these days fixing their websites to a specific resolution. You don't have to. Design it the way HTML was supposed to work, to flow into available space. Otherwise it'll be another site I have to view displayed in a quarter strip down the left of my monitor.

Design it using percentages not specific pixels. Also design for 800x600 not to loose a good amount of customers even if they are 15%(they are 'more) loosing 15% business is bad.

I use 1400*1050 (laptop)
I allways do my sites that they look good on as many resolutions as possible, never under 800*600 though. As even that looks pretty bizarre to me after my own resolution.

HTML was designed for all text. If you're making an all text site, let it flow. If it's got any graphics, it has to be constrained to a certain size usually.

If you want it to work best do 100% width, or build the site to 800x600 then everyone will be able to view it without the scroll

TIP: The optimal page size is 778x440 , this is the size of the visible part of the browser on a 800x600 resolution without the scrolls.

Looks good on higher res as well

Did anybody notice that PJ was asking what YOUR resolution is set at? The guy knows how to design sites for surfers but he is trying to get a feel for what the WEBMASTERS use since they are the ones who will be on his site. The average webmaster does not use 800x600. He did not ask for your opinions or advice on how to build a page, he is only collecting data from the poll.

This poll is presently looking very similar to my stats - It seems that most people in the online adult biz use 1024x768 - and then 800x600 is in 2nd place.

I view in 1024x768 - but when I designed my site, I made a centered table that is optimized for 800x600, (It still looks fine at higher resolutions).

But still, I'm thinking about redoing the whole thing, working with percentages instead of the 'fixed' sizes. It gets a little tricky sometimes though, when you are working with a whole bunch of cells and tables - in percentages.
