Am I the only one who see's the application of the proverb "give a man a fish and you feed him for a day teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime"
Huggles reminds me of the Bronx and Harlem in the 80’s, 90s to very very early 2000’s. You’d see them crackheads get money and look fresh as hell for a weekend, looking good as hell and happy as fuck… by Monday they shivering in front of the building selling their sneakers and couch, asking for a dollar, seeing if anybody wants to send them on errands for a tip (the original DoorDash), etc. Sometimes they did good to earn your trust and you had a working crackhead on your roster that would do anything you asked for $5, sometimes they did bad and ran off to get high with your money without delivering. Repeated cycle. And the neighborhood enabled this, for a long time. Looking out for our folks, or so we thought. Most of those folks I have no idea what happened to them, people literally just permanently disappeared, hopefully they figured it out. The few that are officially doing good that we all know about now had to look inside themselves to get their shit together and leave the comfort of neighborhood enabling.
“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”
