i don't think that opening new threads about it will make it any better. since you guys are such great webmasters maybe change some of the colors and provide some helpful feedback of what can be changed to make it better?! just a thought ...Proudly ruining GFY one CSS rule at a time. -
Serious question: how does this enhance GFY at all? Is it more secure? Faster? What's the net effect here? Just a face lift?
Because if it's only for visual purposes, just change it back. It's aggressively bad compared to how simple the interface was. There's a reason the Google homepage hasn't had a refresh in .. ever. If it ain't broke ..Comment

Dev I hope at some point you bring back the 'back to top' arrow and the ability to quote/multiquote/reply (was working for a bit but seems to be nonfunctional now)
on the aesthetics tip, the font size for post body is so small on laptop and the thickness of the titles and button text is kinda blinding
the chat box thingy is really neat though, tested it out with someone and it works perfectly

Need some help bro?
Claude Code literally has a frontend design skill just for things like this... you don't have to suffer through it alone

The design is really just a side effect of the actual project, which was upgrading the forum software itself. GFY was running on PHP 5.6, MySQL 5.7, and vBulletin 3.8—a version that was released back in 2009. At that point, the entire platform had become essentially unmaintainable.

It's not just that PHP 5.6 and MySQL 5.7 are long past end-of-life and no longer supported. Even provisioning infrastructure for them has become a nightmare, which is a big reason why GFY was constantly going up and down. We don't use off-the-shelf shared hosting—we run our own cloud infrastructure that supports multiple applications and services. The forum needed to be brought in line with the rest of our environment, or at least close enough that it could actually be maintained going forward.
The forum is now running on the latest version of vBulletin (6.2.1). Getting there wasn't as simple as clicking an upgrade button. We had to perform multiple major version upgrades (3.8 → 4.x → 5.x → 6.x) while preserving all of the content and minimizing downtime. That was a significant project in itself.
As for the design, we intentionally tried to keep it as a dark theme. The only viable option we found was vBulletin's default dark theme. We changed the primary accent color to the same bright yellow GFY has always used, but it's clear that people aren't loving it. We're already working on improving it, but these changes take time. Traditional forum software is a niche product these days, so there simply aren't many high-quality themes or customization options available anymore.
- Edit: moreover, none of us have any experience with this forum software, its an old product. AI can't even tell for sure how to change the number of posts per page it keeps referencing the old way of doing it for older versions which no longer work for these new ones and with the limited online resources out there everything just takes a bit longer.

Ui changes are coming including the font size, the quote part...we will have to look into that i have no idea what multi quote means.Dev I hope at some point you bring back the 'back to top' arrow and the ability to quote/multiquote/reply (was working for a bit but seems to be nonfunctional now)

Dev multi quote is the ability to insert more than one quote in a reply
just a way to reply to more than one poster in a topic without having to make individual replies
understandable about tweaking the aesthetics, get that it's only day one and not the foremost priority over the functional stuff
lol I didn't realize she was missing. true say!!Comment

Why would you play around with gfy if you have no experience with the software?
good luck bro. I’m riding till the wheel fall off, but then wheel shaky now.“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”Comment

^you see that? That’s why I need that edit option back. GFY does not really have a team of engineers working on it. if you haven't noticed nothing changed for the past 20 years. it came down to just "fuck this tired of dealing with this forum going up and down all day" so we went ahead and called it.Proudly ruining GFY one CSS rule at a time.Comment

Helpful feedback? there was a version in existence based on xenforo - Plenty of us saw it, as we were invited to test out all its features. It really looked and felt like an upgrade, was mobile friendly and yet looked more like OG GFY than this does. It was basically finished - Not sure why they never switched over to it...
But, an honest opinion regarding the new vbulletin 'upgrade' is that this is just change for changes sake.
I can't speak for others, but I can speak for myself, and as someone who has visited GFY every single day, for close to a quarter of a century, I'd personally rather have the original as it was still running, but on a better server... If an update really is needed for mobile usage, then Id really look at seeing what happened to that other version. Is it still on one of the GFY servers somewhere?
But anyway, it's your playground - we just visit, so whatever you want to do is up to you, but as I said, Id personally just have original back, but on a better server - The xenforo version (as it was set up when we were testing it) as an alternative...
But anyway - thats just my thoughts - Peace

You know what, that’s valid. I too was tired of snail gfy. I will forever miss the bold style tho. It was iconic.“If you can convince the lowest white man he’s better than the best colored man, he won’t notice you’re picking his pocket. Hell, give him somebody to look down on, and he’ll empty his pockets for you.”Comment

You did a phenomenal job, then. The design is a small consideration in comparison. I can totally see why you were frustrated that people are unhappy. That's a lot of work under less-than-ideal conditions. Nice job.

I do a great deal of consulting with PPC and landing page creation and optimization and I say the same thing to companies over and over and over and over... "the same idiots that created this mess will never be the ones to fix it properly"
No one has ever proven me wrong on that point. Not once. Not ever.
If you're too fucking dumb to understand how royally you've fucked this forum up which has been the same look/feel, features/functions since 2002, then you're too dumb to improve anything. It was already hanging by a thread as it was... and you idiots just killed it.
And since you obviously have no history in this biz... every board collapse in this industry typically traces back to a single event. You created this one Congrats.

The biggest miss is scanability. GFY works because people can read titles fast, see who replied, and jump into business threads. A compact mode would fix half of the complaints without needing to roll everything back.Need custom or licensed content? PhotoVideoContent.com

This ........ most of the time the main issue with websites, even Reddit of which I still keep the old-style Reddit, is how quickly can I scan and use the site.Comment

. . . Bring back the fiddy (and the GFY Lady)!
