Adding a domain with Cpanel...

Having a problem getting domains to add properly. The only option I see is Add On Domains.

tried and it put a folder of the new domain in my main domains html files. Anyhow, shit doesn't work.

Anything special I need to know with cpanel?

I have never been able to get addon domains to work in Cpanel though subdomains work OK. I just have my host do it for me.

Is this your own server? You don't have WHM, do you?

If you're just doing the add on, you have to make sure the domain has had time to propagate before you try. Also, did you double check to make sure you have your nameservers right at your registrars?

It's a virtual with CPanel. DNS is pointed right and propogating. Nameservers good.

well, he still could be able to add the domain, only that it won't work.

The way I do it is clicking on "Create a new account", then add domain and details such as IP, shell access, etc.

I don't see an "Add on domains" option, but it sounds to me more like a domain added on top of another domain than a new account. Hope that helps

Have you ever been able to add one with this account? It has to be enabled to work. On your main cpanel page, does it show as having add-ons available? Like 2/50, or however many you're allowed?

Usually, you just click add-ons, make up a name for the folder and enter it, enter the domain name, then a password. Before you do this, you would have added a folder in your root with the same name as whatever you called the folder in add-ons. Then, if your nameservers are right and the domain has propagated, it should work.

Just shows the root directory and cgi-bin as the only folder in the directory.

aw, now I see it's a virtual. well, just do what you're doing and simply upload the site's content to that folder, it should work. In fact what you're doing is a redirection, domains must be added from the main cpanel, you've the end user version

He doesn't have WHM. He's doing this as an add-on domain in Cpanel, for a virtual account.

Addon Domains are domain names that point to subdirectories within your account.

When you add your domain in the add-ons deal, is cpanel giving you the message that it went okay? Did you remember to create the folder in your root before you tried to add the domain the first time? It should have made a cgi-bin and the whole nine yards, inside that folder.

Also, did you remember to actually add an index page to that new folder the domain is pointing at?

Besides the new url you're adding, you should also be able to reach the new index page by going to www.yourmaindomain/thefoldername/

then upload the index! I just did the same you're doing, and worked fine (but I had to upload the index.html file)

Ok check this out.

I FINALLY got a b/s index page to pull up using the domain.

However, I changed the index and it still pulls up the old one. I went to it by both maindomain.com/newdomain and http://newdomain.maindomain.com and they show the correct index. Just typing in the new domain I added shows an index that no longer exists on my server.

What do you mean "no longer exists"? If the page is showing, it's got to be on the server somewhere. Unless you just need to clear your cache and/or hit refresh.

I don't know jack about cpanel, I either use a custom script or do shit in shell...


but from the sound of things it seems like you might have an apache problem going on...


you double check all your paths and ips to ensure it's matching and no minor minor errors?
