...I caught my first Salmon for this season. I went out for an hour or so this afternoon...didn't have any luck and went back out around seven and within a few minutes caught one. Not exactly one for the record books...around eighteen pounds...but a start. I will have to buy a smoker now. A guy that fishes the same spot that I do...caught a forty-eight pounder a few days ago.

are you in upstate NY by any chance?

Season has already started a couple of days ago afaik but the real action is in the middle of Sept to mid Oct when the Huge Runs come in.

Can't wait to get my ass up there and get a few hookups, last 2 years also caught some bigass stealheads. What a Beautiful fucking fish!

Well lightening did strike twice...in a way. I hooked one but after a rather lengthy battle I didn't land him. I tried to bull him in and my leader broke.

No...I am on the West Coast. I really am not an experienced Salmon fisherman. I am using 40 lb test line...and a 20 lb leader...with lure...does that sound about right to you. Actually that test is what I use to fish with for any ocean fish. I am fishing in a bay.
