    ICQ help please

    Please do not suggest Trillian . . . that is not going to happen . . . .that being said . . .

    I made the mistake of going to sleep this A.M. and when I woke up, ICQ was down, and when I tried to restart it I got a C++ Visual Basic error.

    I use 2001b. I tried reinstalling, and when that failed I moved the existing copy over to one of my other drives. I then installed 2001b again. That worked, and my entire contact list was restored.

    This is my problem: I have lost all of my history! This is not acceptable.

    Like I said, I moved all my previous files to another drive, so I still have it, I just need to know where it is. Anyone here happen to know what files contain the history?

    I am thinking an .idx or .dat files. Anyone know for sure?

      Hmmm I'm not sure,
      but maybe you should try opening some of these files in notepad...
      maybe you'll see your history there as text

          I think the location changed with each version. Just do a google search for 'message history icq 2001b' and I guarantee you'll find the answer.

              well . . . a little update . . . .

              I found the idx and dat files where the history was stored, but I had to run the db converter . . which took about 6 hours . . .so, now history is restored . . . but now it won't connect to the Internet . . . guess I need to try an upgrade

                  I have all of the previous versions before this last one if you want to try one of those, let me know and I'll get one uploaded for you. I HATE this new one......... but I did it anyway, and I'd be willing to bet you will hate it worse than I do.

                      yes, I know I am going to hate the latest version. . . I use a friends once in a while, and I am totally lost with it . . . what versions do you have?

                      I am trying to figure out this web based version, but I am guessing it does not keep a history
