Pool maintenance question

I got a new house with a pool last October and the damn filter keeps getting clogged up. The pressure in the filter is supposed to be around 15-20 and mine is usually around 80. I'm cleaning the fucking thing every other week and it'll be fine for a day or two and then gets clogged up again. I bought new elements for it last month, but that didnt seem to work.

This is my first pool and I don't know what the hell Im doing ... obviously. Any suggestions?

Screen it in or use the net everyone in awhile to clean the top... What do you have, alot of leaves?

sounds like your missing the 1st filter, the one right where the water gets sucked out of the pool, pop the lid off the top of it and there should be a basket in there (im just assuming you're not a cheapass and its an inground)

What is it getting clogged with??? Dirt, leaves??

If it is leaves, screen it in.

If it is dirt, you may have a broken pipe underground, and it is sucking the dirt in. If that is the case, sell the house.. Unless you want to put out like 5k to figuer out where it is, and then another 5 or so to fix it...

LMAO ... no, it's an inground pool and it's also screened in

I'm sure the pipe isnt busted and I dont get any leaves. Just dust, a couple of bugs and shit like that. I had a pool service come out for the first couple of months, but the guy sucked and hasnt been back for a couple of months. Just feel like I need to do that kind of thing myself ... kinda like mowing the yard.

the elements in the filter just get clogged up with algaea and fine sand. The pool is typically very clean and I dont understand where this shit is coming from.

Do you backwash the filter after you vaccumed?
Did you check the sand inside the filter? When was it last changed? (probably never )

backwash for 5-10 minutes.

or are you talking about that little plastic filter next to the pool ??

Ive never noticed much algae on my filter, do you use chlorine?

I'm not talking about the skimmer filter ... about the main one.

I'm constantly backwashing, it's the only way to keep some kind of vacuum going. I thought the elements were getting old, so I got new ones and they got clogged up withing days.

As far as I understand you're supposed to dump that really fine crushed shell into the skimmer on a regular basis, however that just seems to make it worse.

or flush the entire pool and clean out all the crap

Crushed shell? do you mean the chlorine?
It's best if you disolve it in warm water before putting it in to the skimmer.

That's filtering agent, you are not supposed to be putting that in the skimmer, it's supposed to be added inside your main filter once . No wonder it's blocked.

You're supposed to replace the pool pump every 5 - 10 years. If your pump is giving you problems, get a new one.

I am putting it in the skimmer ... slowly as well so not to clog it up further. Havent put any in for a couple of weeks to see if that was clogging it up and it hasnt made a difference either way.

its added into the skimmer on some filters when starting them up initially

I'm sure its not the pump. It's been replaced within the last year
