Video streaming on Linux boxes (WMV)?!

I'm working on a quite big video project. Now i'm in the phase to choose my OS. Normally i only run Linux, Unix or Solaris. Anyways my client dont want the users to download the videos.

I'm looking into the WMV format of M$ , i think it the best option in therms of quality and multiple bitrates.

Is it possible to stream this format (WMV) from a linux box ? I really dont want to setup a dedicated Windblows box for the videos. Any suggestions ??

    M$
    Thnx

it depends on how you stream it
if they are pre-made wmv you can.
if you are talking about LIVE streaming
you need to visit sourceforge.net and search for streaming video

You can stream premade .wmv files from a linux server. Nothing to it actually, all you need is a link to the file from your html page and windows media player does the rest

I'm doing this in my members area with no trouble at all but of course you have to make sure you have the bandwitch for it.

Yes, i know but i dont think that solves my main problem. The videos must be protected from download... My client wants that. not me. Kind of weird thought in fact, cause we're gonna be a content provider as well ...
