Someone put a spy program on my computer!

And it records keystrokes, chat, websites, etc. I have a pretty good idea who did it, will the cops do anything if I call them?

Why do you think you know who did it? And who did it you think? And do you think you know how they did it?

The cops will not be able to do anything about it. You would have to contact the AG's office in your state. Usually the State Police has a computer crime division. Anyone on a Federal Level wont even give you the time of day.

If the program is from spector or eblaster you can go to http://spector.com/ and they will tell you who bought the license to use it. Most other spy ware companies will help you in figuring out who put it on your computer.

Tell them government employees have used your computer to do work and the FBI will knock down the door of whoever did it.

Is it even illegal? Seems like it would be but I know spyware programs that the ad servers use are not illegal yet.

You may be able to get them to help if you can prove that they used it to steal your credit card, steal your money (fraud basically). but just putting software on your computer (however shitty) i dont think will cause them to do anything.
