FTP troubles ..HELP!!!

I really need some help here. I have not been able to log into my FTP server for several days now.

I have talked with the hosting company many times.. everything is kosher on their end.

I have checked all firewalls and they are free and clear and even checked to allow this ip and port .

I have changed the password and still can't log in.

I have tried this on several computers with 2 different OS's.

I have tried to unplug from t he router and plug directly into the DSL modem... nothing has worked.

I am totally at lost here and have no idea what this could be.. has always worked for me before.

this sucks..any suggestions would be majorally helpful, i feel at this point it could be my ISP blocking my FTP..but I really have no idea and they havent answered my calls today.

You have to contact your host. There is no way everything is Kosher if you are not able to login to your server.

Did you change your FTP client ?? try using a different port... one that is more secure like 56688

Some servers require SFTP/SSH or secure ftp, and most ftp programs don't have this built in... wsftp8 does and you have to select it in the advanced site options..

no, I havent changed my FTP client... i will try another port now if that will possibly help...

It was fine on friday night..

but my internet conection was down for several hours on Saturday.. when it came back on, I was unable to log into my FTP server for my bettylove account.

I have it on secure FTP. I had no probs with it then bam, it doesnt work after a year.

If your Host has firewalled by IP and your IP changed ..then you need to contact them and let them know you are hitting the server and for them to allow your IP

I havent been able to send DCC mp3s to friends on ICQ, or log on to certain sites too.

I'd have to say that it sounds like your IP is blocked. Most hosting services do this. Or the good ones do. So call them up and ask them to block your old ip and to allow your new IP in.

I'm wondering if they didnt do some changing of your IP at the host end. Because everything in your first post is exactly what happened to someone else, (including host saying it was all good), but somewhere along the line they had swapped IP.. And since she was logging in with FTP using the IP # of her machine instead of the domain name, or machine name, FTP rejected her.

My IP is the same, but gonna call them first thing in the morning and make sure they check to make sure its not blocked.

I pinged it.. everything worked out as usual.

I think I will resolve this with a phonecall in the morning.. this is what my log on SmartFTP says when i try to log in

Resolving host name ftp.bettylove.com...
Connecting to (ftp.bettylove.com) -> IP: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx PORT: xx(numbers changed to x's)
Connected to (ftp.bettylove.com) -> Time = 2964ms
Socket connected waiting for login sequence.
Connection timeout. No response from server.
Cannot login waiting to retry (30s)..

If try too log in with XP.s ftp....I try your ftp anonymous and the answer was:
220Robb8.flyingrock Ftp server ready

yes, I use Xp on the one computer.. 98 on the other. That is how i logged in to the different FTp server.

Is it a dedicated box? If so, restart your ftp server in VHM...

Are you using as an FTP server ( not client} PureFTPD ? If so, you can change to ProFTPD. Or vice versa...

well that didnt work..it has to be because my ip is blocked...there is no other reason at the moment.

hmmm, i am sort of FTP stupid at this point..lol. I just host with Amateurhosting and I dont think its dedicated.
