depends on the situation and what is at stake if you admit defeat, but in most cases in you are wrong and that is evident then just admit defeat and move on
When you invest $15k and the business plan fails you don't give up, you just try something new.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60. Let me repeat... A 120 x 60 button and no more that 3 lines of DEFAULT SIZE AND COLOR text.
It all depends on what it is. Sometimes you have to cave in relationships, you can't be boss all the time, things can't always go your way. But as for life tossing crisis after crisis at me....I'm a tiger...and I never, ever give up. I'll be damned if I will go down without a fight.
You're asking for a specific answer to very very general and diverse situations, but I think with age comes wisdom to know which battles are worth fighting and which ones are worth letting slide.
People who claim that no fight is worth walking away from have never 'enjoyed' the results of phyrric victories, where the damage caused by the conflict itself far outdoes the benefit of victory.

Giving up? It depends on what we are talking about here.. in a new venture I give up when I decide the amount of time I spend on it isn't worth the return.
Some things though I will never give up on. (non work related..)
