I just made 5 pages = 92 pics + 92 thumbs in 3 hours - uploaded every single pic, wrote the code, checked all the links....now my fuckin eyes hurt and got to start submitting them

the longer it takes you to make a gallery, the less money you will make... cause if you make galleries faster you can make more of them, submit to more posts, and spend more time learning stuff here @ gfy!

deluxe, not always right...

do you get, out of those fast made galleries, some galleries than can return to you near to 500-1,000$? EACH?

cuz I have a few, some make tons of those...

they take you longer, say 30mins - 3hours each..

but then, you can have them listed at a friend's tgp, or on your tgp quite often, and STILL make a shitload off of those.... while if you have a ton of gallery, you submit them, then they become less important, can't re-use them, you don't get listed as much, etc...


but I do get your point, there's two ways to approach galleries both ways have strong points, you just can't overlook the quality galleries side.

Magnitique, or anyone... you make that much off of gallery TGP pages? I can't seem to convert that well with any TGP gallery pages, regardless of the sponsor. Can you give me a sample high $$$ gallery for you, I'd like to get a look, or at least give some advice to increase conversions.

Hey Kat, do you have any webmaster image software? PaintShop, PhotoShop, thumbs Plus, or anything like that?

Dreamweaver, or GoLive?

Any one of those programs should help you cut your build time in half.

If you do, let me know I might be able to show you a few time saving tricks.

i have gallery maker pro (it just sits there using up disk space as i can't be assed wasting all the time it'll take to learn it)

I use graphic workshop to batch convert pics into thumbs, and RenameFiles v2.2 to do filenames. I have a template that i wrote which is good for most of my galleries, but the 5 galleries i did on sunday were for a different sponsor and didn't fit my template

oh, i also got photoshop - i hate it!

i have tried photoshop 5.5 and 6 - both make my compy slow as hell! (600mHz 128meg ram, 32meg graphics)

You have to set your scratch disk space up really high to get it to work best. We have an open drive of 4 gigs on the one system and the scratch is set to that drive. Look under file and then something to get the settings
On a p3-450, 192 megs ram it takes about 40 secs to run 10 pics to thumbs and it dusts its hands (I checked that drive, it has about 2.3 gigs open for scratch)

mmmm what I use for my galleries :

Optimisation : Ulead smart saver ... thats the best
Gallery making : For thumbnails, I use GMP and for the rest I use TGSW .
When I have some special galleries that I want to work more on signups and I have some time, I just use photoshop to make thumbnails and make it by hand .

All this gives me good results with 10-20 min of work on them a day .

I have a system that's almost exactly half the power, and I can do 200 images in just a few minutes in PhotoShop 6. Are you on a MAC? I know in MAC you need to set scratch disks and al that crap, but on a PC I've never had to deal with that problem.

Maybe you need to defragment or something? How much space do you have on your HD?

I'm completely floored as to why it takes you so long on a system that should be twice as fast as mine.

this is a 2 hdd(20gig + 4gig) amd duron. The damn thing is maintained weekly too.

Graphic workshop Pro kicks the ass out of photoshop for thumbs and stuff - i have napster running in the background all the time, i play my mp3's all the time, outlook is on all the time too and GWSP doesn't even notice them all.

I tried several times with both Photoshops, running one of them and nothing else - still slow as hell

I guess I'm still confused. Are you saying that PhotoShop sucks?

Did you try creating thumbnails with my tutorial that I posted on the 13th? With that tutorial I created 90 thumbs in just a few minutes, just enough time to stretch, and grab a coke.

I don't understand why your computer is so slow. It sounds like it should be fast, but it can't handle PhotoShop??? Something must be wrong.

Hmm, Oh well. It's too bad you can't use PhotoShop, as far as imaging goes, I wouldn't trust anything else. Bu that's just me. To each his own. And in the end they're just thumbnails, as long as they look good who cares how you make 'em.

Stuff I use.

Adobe Photo Shop is a must for multi layer stuff
Photo Impact is nice but Photoshop kicks its ass
PSP excellent for quickies palette changing and capture
Gallery Maker Pro Has no real inline template facility but it works ok
Arles Image Web Page Creator is a nice tool with template facility
Thumbmaker Pro is a really nice tool
Adobe Image Styler makes nice quick logos and stuff ? breeze to use
Jpeg Optimizer is a brilliant auto compress proggy for multi files
Re-Name Wiz takes some beating
Acdsee is the best viewer with quick re-size and re-name tools built in
Dreamweaver with Fireworks has excellent cross automation ability
Edit Plus is one of the best html, perl etc editors for the money

WinPerl is also good for automating web page changes and making galleries from template files but you need to know a little perl. I can change a member area html file set code and update all its thumb pages in less than 30mins using a perl script.

Kat, I have Photoshop 6 running on a HP Kayak XM600 with 128 of ram and it runs fine. I don?t use it for making thumbs though, I find stand alone proggies do this job best unless you want to add fancy stuff to the thumbnail.

By the way Kat, have you got a GFY T-Shirt, I mailed a while ago also asking about the free content thingy but got no reply. Maybe its cos I am so far away.

Susan , make sure the email didn't bounce. I've never been able to successfully email into and "amatuerpages.com" email address. It bounces everytime. (I may have misspelled it here, but I spelled it right when I sent the email)

I have to send it to tanker, or wizzo, and add an "email confirmation notice" so that I know that someone on that end read it.

They've never responded, but I assume they are just too busy.

Redshoe you take a try at explaining to Kat about the scratch disk. It sounds exactly like what we found on customers systems when they complained about Photoshop even way back. Kick that scratch disk up and to a place it can temp with and it will fly. Whats happening is the RAM is having to double duty in part for scratch and you know how photo shop eats RAM on its own.

Then I promise to send someone right out to SoCal to help you fix your ICQ. Nyahh thats one I can do on my own! Reinstall over the existing will work but if you upgraded to AOLHELLS ad filled version, pity you. Hate that!

i am going to stick with Graphic Workshop Pro, RenameFiles and CSE Validator Lite as they don't touch my processor (napster is blasting out music and uploading at 20k/s while i do my work!)

I tried HomeSite 4.5 for validation - but it's FAR too anal!!!!!!

Is photoshop much better than GWP?

php can be used on the server to generate gallery pages on the fly...

btw, stuff I use for gallery making:
- A simple text editor, EmEditor
- Paintshop Pro 4.0
- DOS ('ren' for batch renaming of files)

Yes, very low-tech but I try to avoid learning new programs all the time.

Kat: I just finished my ThumbExpress software. It a very small program made specifically for adult webmasters who wants to make galleries in less than a minute.
