    Oxeo hosting problems!!

    Hi All

Well I'm at my wits end. My adult sites have been down for over 12hours. Traffic shot to shit due to a disk error at Oxeo hosting and they are still working on the problem.

Currently I am on a virtual host with 60Gb band / 250mg storage for US$25/monthly. My site ping has never been more then the better side of average.

Any advice anyone can give either a better hosting company or what I should be demanding OXEO to do to regain lost traffic / sales. What are my rights if this sort of thing happens? Im from Aus so US business standards are abit new to me. Their 100% uptime guarantee and 24/7 support is questionable. They now say that the uptime guarantee is for the network and the 24/7 support seems not to be in a row.

Also any suggestions in regaining lost traffic to make up for the 12+ hours?

    Enough ravin. Any help pls!

You could always just call Oxeo though and ask why your site is down and tell them to fix the problem. Just a suggestion.

I have been on to them through ICQ. They have mentioned it is a hard disk failure and they are still working on the problem. Thx for the input tho.

they r working the problem out in general. 12hours of downtime is alittle to much to regain dont you think. I am looking for options from others what to do to regain traffic and better hosting.

its not the monthly billing I am concerned about, its the loss of traffic and revenue. I put the price so others could comment on better hosting needs

A harddrive failure with data recovery takes about 30 minutes to get the problem solved if you have the new data backup technology like most of us hosts do. We have an apache module and the servers are connected to a local LAN that takes a backup image of the complete harddrive. If any server has a harddrive failure the data is recovered from the LAN server and put on the new harddrive then the harddrive is installed and the server rebooted. 30 minutes downtime at the most. It's a shame more hosts do not monitor their servers so they know about the problem before the customer does.

                                                            Hello haddict,

Well first of all like every host who visits GFY of course I would like to have your business (Aussies are great).

Now with that said, and the research I just did (it is amazing what you can find out with a phone call), it seems that there are some legitamate reasons for the time Oxeo is taking in an attempt to recover everyone on this platforms HDD. (You can believe that they would rather be out drinking a beer on Friday night instead of fixing a server.)

I am confident that if you do a bit of research you will find that the majority of quality hosts here guarantee there network not there servers. Now for the right price you can build in all kind of fail safe mechanisims, but not for $25/mo.

In the short term why don't you ask Oxeo to set up an account on an alternate platform and then upload the site from your personal backups to the new server.

In the long term if you don't want to be at the mercy of an event like this, then begin making plans to move onto a dedicated server. Talk to your host to establish failover strategies that you can put into place, just keep in mind that the better insurance you choose the higher the price tag will be.

I am aware that you get what you pay for but most virtual hosts have similar sorts of deals. But your input is noted. Thx.
