What is the difference? Is it compression? Is it quality? What is the deciding factor. I have always been curious about that.

Both actually. While mpeg might have slightly better quality at 352x240, when you want full screen or just 720x480 resolution, the only way to go is divx. If you went mpeg2 format for that, you'd have a HUGE fucking sized file.Originally posted by NickPapageorgio

They're entirely different formats, and they all have their weaknesses and good points.
Read up on www.doom9.net or similar to get more of an idea. You can get good quality out of both formats, but they handle video in different ways. MPEG is still good in a lot of situations.Comment

Yeah, but if you are going to do full screen or large frame video, divx is the only way there is to go now (THOUGH, hahahahahahas 9.0 encoder does a pretty damn good job too..all most as good as divx). And all they have to do is go download the codec from divx.com (Or provide it for them on your own site), and install it (pretty elementary) and they're set.Originally posted by EviLGuY
Divx is good, and its .avi files.. only problem is customers have to download and install the codec. Its not there by default.. so.. some customer service headaches.
.wmv is pretty good and without the hassles.
And xvid is actually the best of the divx lot imo.

You need to do better than that. The DivX player and the non-pro version of the codec have no adware at all.Originally posted by AlienQ

DivX vs. mpeg-1 are different solutions for different problems. I don't have handy the number of times the player has been downloaded, but we all know that number is ascertain exactly what that means.
What I can check is the number of individuals that have paid for DivX movies. Let's just say it is well over 7 digits. Also, people that try it, generally really like it. We see people renting 10 movies at a time. We also see return customers like crazy. I don't mean rebills. These are people coming back and making another purchase. In the last year we saw 100 people make more than 100 purchases. That is generally at a price point of $10- $15.
If you want to experiment with some traffic to DivX sites, you might want to talk to Top Bucks, Gamelink, DVD Empire, DVD Explorer, Hot Movies, I'm sure I am leaving a few out. Look for a few more affiliate models based around DivX content to roll out soon.AIM - DivXVOD
