Exit Popup Debate...

Ok its well known that many people do NOT signup on there first visit to a site, they usually come back later etc.

If this is the case do EXIT popups deter the visitor to come back? Would it deter you??

I was thinking of one exit popup, and then another off that.

Because the surfer may not like Site A, but Site B they like so they join.

A big sponsor used to be dead set against popups, not sure if they still are but its one I see people promote the webmaster program still.

If I ran a paysite I would only use 1 delayed popup at about 8 minutes. (Not chained to open another)

This should give the surfer the allusion the site is popup free and 8 minutes should be enough time for them to decide to buy or not.
That way, if the surfer leaves you will get a second chance to make some $$$

with the main stream companies poping up consoles, this made the surfer just use to it,,, so popping consoles has just become second nature

i have to say when i started in this industrie i choose not to use pop ups and last week i decided to put a pop up for a feature on one of my sites and ive been getting 10x the entries then i did with out it. i now feel its a great concept becuase im benifiting from it . i think 3 or 4 is plenty and in the middle of the screen for easy shut down any more then that makes you feel like its war!!! three or four is easy to close off and the surfer then knows it was easy to get out of so they should come back

I thought time delayed popups were used primarily by cheaters. You know, sneak a popup in there and make it look like it didn't orignate from your site. I bet sponsors could get away with it, the surfers would just balme whatever site they had visited last.

Certainly a single pop-up is no bad thing as most commercial sites seem to use them and the surfer's used to them. Hell, even the hun uses one now!
