    Problem with my mouse...

    Anyone ever had their mouse act sorta "jerky" ? Like, it lags a bit when you move it. I tried a different mouse, so I know there was nothing wrong with my mouse. The cursor just sorta stops for like a 1/4th of a second every 2 or 3 seconds or so when moving the mouse...

    Any ideas?

              I tried reloading the drivers.. I've tried just about everything you can think of. The mouse worked fine for over a year. Also, I noticed that when it's doing this.. My CPU is at 100%, and thats with very few processes running, and right after a restart.. I don't know wtf else to do here.

                  ball mouse or optical?

                  try changing your mousepad or whatever surface you working on

                  I used to get that problem all the time with a ball mouse
                  never had it since i got optical

                      Could be a few things:

                      Drivers (try new one, or reinstall current version)
                      Background programs running and bogging machine down
                      Machine just needs a shutdown/restart

                      umm.. if you have tried another mouse then its probably not hardware. Being that its 'jerky' though, I would consider cleaning the gunk off the rollers inside the mouse.. 2 black ones and the white wheel.. on both mice to be sure..

                      After that.. no idea! Format, reinstall ;)

                          CTRL-ALT-DELETE - Task Manager - sort on CPU and see what process is causing the load!!

                              IBM Mouse Balls...
                              "Memo of the Month," From The Washington Monthly, January/February 2004, page 24:

                              Abstract: Mouse Balls Available as FRU (Field Replacement Unit)

                              Mouse balls are now available as FRU. Therefore, if a mouse fails to operate or should it perform erratically, it may need a ball replacement. Because of the delicate nature of this procedure, replacement of mouse balls should only be attempted by properly trained personnel.

                              Before proceeding, determine the type of mouse balls by examining the underside of the mouse. Domestic balls will be larger and harder than foreign balls. Ball removal procedures differ depending upon manufacturer of the mouse. Foreign balls can be replaced using the pop-off method. Domestic balls are replaced using the twist-off method. Mouse balls are not usually static sensitive. However, excessive handling can result in sudden discharge. Upon completion of ball replacement, the mouse may be used immediately.

                              It is recommended that each replacer have a pair of spare balls for maintaining optimum customer satisfaction, and that any customer missing his balls should suspect local personnel of removing these necessary items.

                              To re-order, specify one of the following:

                              P/N 33F8462 - Domestic Mouse Balls
                              P/N 33F8461 - Foreign Mouse Balls
