I don't think either makes a significant difference.

It's how your market your site that counts.

Plus, what works one day with a search engine might not work the next.

You're better off diversifying your technical strategies rather than doing everthing the same way again and again.

I agree, but it's such a basic question. Like, "what is PageRank?", or "does PR0 mean I'm banned?".

Those are definitions which are clear and cut. The question this person asked is open to debate. I'd rather answer questions which are clear cut cases.
