There are version of PHPBB that have wayyyy more then vbulleitn script

i guess its a lot liek mac and windows
mac is superior in many ways but everyone has bought windows because it's been marketed betterComment

PHPBB is good, has good features and it's free.
It's also always in development and any bugs that are found are fixed up quick!.
I'd say use that till you're board gets big, then think about shifting, that way if it dosn't work out you havn't lost any moneyComment

How do you get the freakin phpBB logo off of it ?

Sorry, that was an inside joke with a regular poster of GFY.Edit the source?

People like VB because it's easier and more featured packed out of the box.
PhpBB keeps the base cleaner and allows the extra features as add-ons - as you need them,
The 4th biggest board on the internet is a PhpBB board.
The top three are custom (two IGN boards and Face the Jury)
The first VB 'big board" enters the chart at #15.
I've been to both forums and studied what they offer for truely large boards -- for me, PhpBB wins hands down.
FYI... if GFY was on the big board list, it would place around #60 or so.Comment

Not exactly like Mac Vs. Windows anyway....
Google search for "Powered by vbulletin" returns 2.48 million results.
Google search for "powered by PhpBB" returns 2.54 million results
PhpBB appears to have a bigger market share as well....
I guess people just learn to live with all those 'gaping security flaws' and lack of features

ah ok... you're off the hook then

just like i said, invisionboard.Originally posted by MattO
good deal then.. I just installed phpBB on a mainstream music site I run and it's not too shabby. I do like all the skins and stuff you can find for it. And the price is right for a small bbs.Comment

I don't like IB's license.
afaik, Invisonboard requires that you keep their advertisment on the "free" version. Alot of people like IB though....
Google search for "Invision power board" returns 1.15 million results.
Ikonboard liked Invisionboard enough to steal their design layout

This is what qualifies as their advertisement, on the very bottom line of the entire boardOriginally posted by goBigtime

Powered by Invision Power Board v1.1.1 ? 2003 IPS, Inc.
Is that too much for a free board that's totally featured and kicks ass? I don't think so and if you buy a license it's only $60Comment
