I know a someone that runs a site and they have over 500,000 double opt-in registrations of PORN SURFERS.

They have never once mailed them a newsletter or sponsor ad.

may I ask what your reasoning is for not doing that?

I'm not saying spam the hell out of them, but a weekly offer wouldnt hurt IMO or at least a newsletter.

But once you got your hands on them, they'd no longer be double opt-in.

I can understand sitting on a list like that...more out of paranoia than anything else. But that's me.

In my very limited experience, in NON adult, I'd get about one pointed "spam" complaint for every ten emails sent. And this was from a "Hi, it's been a while, here's what we're doing" type mail, with no ads. Now that a single, unsubstantiated complaint can get you fines and worse, I can't imagine anyone who isn't set up for large-scale mailings doing any kind of email marketing.

Or perhaps it would be more honest to say, I can't imagine myself doing it. I do want to work with opt-in lists, but how the hell do you protect yourself from stupid claims? Or should that be another thread?
