is there a book or site where i can learn the essentials on how to run a dedicated server...?

i dont care for any advanced shit so just basic please...

Running a dedicated server and you only want the basics? Hehe, you're running into trouble. I wouldn't try it unless you already know what you're doing. You'll have more problems than it's worth... having an unmanaged server without experience, yikes!

the best you can do is buy a old pc, install linux on it and set it up as a home webserver
learn how to use it
learn how to fix things
after look for some unmanaged server
this is the only way to go
old pc: 300$
linux book: 30$
linux iso: free
linux server managing experience: priceless :P

even put apache on from the ports. (FreeBSD)
