Whats the best msg board software? ive been using ikonboard and really dont like it, perl is evil.

i just installed http://www.invisionboard.com on another job and liked it.. is there any argument as to why GFY uses vBulletin?

    thanks

vBulletin and InvisionBoard are both great.

A third option (free, Open Source) is phpBB , which with a nice skin can look fantastic. You can see it in action at:

        among other sites.

              There's another option ...

The WBB (Woltlab Burning Board). It's also a great board with nearly the same features as VBulletin.

i liked phpbb until i tried invision.. phpbb feels "loose" to me, a little slower, less secure, little more messy....

i'm pretty sure invision allows threaded style viewing also... (might check their demo site, but i remember seeing something like that)

can someone tell me WHY vbulletin is better? what it has the others dont? is it very efficient and thats why a large active board like gfy uses it?

I think one reason vBulletin is "better" to some is that there is a very active community around it, in terms of skins, hacks, etc. See www.vbulletin.org for example.

One reason I like InvisionBoard, though, is that they have a hosted option (the company that created it does the hosting, handles all upgrades, etc.). If vBulletin did the same, I might consider switching, as I like a true turnkey system.

Same for the Woltlab Burning Board .. there are hundreds of great skins for it. And it's way cheaper than the VBulletin.

I would have to agree. Even though I was settin up 3 for someone and was a bit confused with the admin setup at first, some of the default options in it are pretty damn cool. But still like 2 over it.
SIG TOO BIG! Maximum 120x60 button and no more than 3 text lines of DEFAULT SIZE and COLOR. Unless your sig is for a GFY top banner sponsor, then you may use a 624x80 instead of a 120x60.
