developed capitalist countries were 1st world
communist countries were 2nd world and
what was left were the developing countires that were called 3rd world countires and still are being called that way.
So "3rd world" as a name is a remainder from the Cold War era.Comment

3rd world countries are any country that is not a industrial country (ie. usa, china, france, japan, britian) or a developing industrial country (ie.. mexico, brazil, argentina...) these countries are in the process of becoming a industrialized nation.... the rest that dont really fit those are 3rd worldComment
