For what its worth, I recently purchased an off brand 18 inch TFT panel. The name on it is "Gem". It's made overseas by one of the large OEM companies has a 3 year warranty and cost a hair under $700 after rebate.

I looked seriously at the 18 inch NEC before buying this on and decided that while the NEC had significantly better color saturation it wasn't worth $200 more.

After using it for a month I still have pangs of envy everytime i think about the NEC but from a purely functional standpoint I am happy with my purchase.

It was certainly worth the extra $150 over the cost of a 17 inch panel.
