    Mac or PC?

I replied to a topic earlier today, and it started me thinking about the Mac's at work.

I HATE MAC. I think they were stronger maybe in the earlier 90's with graphics software. But now I don't think they improve much, they just keep repackaging them. Blue, red, clear, but they don't improve them.

I know of several 3D graphics studios here in LA, that us PC. I'm sure that most of them use PC now.

What I hate most is at work anytime we need something for our computers, ANYTHING, they have to pick up a fuckin' catalog, and order it, then wait.
If I want to upgrade, I can go to any one of a dozen stores within a mile radius of each other, and be back in time for lunch.

Would kind of computer do you use? Do you prefer Mac or PC? Why?

I actually started out on a Mac at the college's computer room. Luckily, they replaced them all the next year with PCs. There are more programs & games for the PC. Thank goodness too & it's PC all the way for me

Started with a Microcenter clone and then met this hubby. Saw how great customs were and haven't gone back since. Mac? Didn't he sing Baby I'm awant you? lol Wouldn't allow a dell, gateway, compaq, HP, Mac, Apple, or a PB in the house without charging for it to come in! (I have an expanded list)

I miss my Mac, i used to have one at my old job...a G4, it was fast as fuck and could run for months without ever rebooting. But like Jamdin said, not as much software available for them as PC's..oh well, back to my Win2000 box..

I've never even used a Mac, but I was just wondering why a lot of graphics people always seem to flock to them. From what I've seen, current PC's always seem to be on the bleeding edge as far as raw performance.

What makes a Mac so great for doing graphics? Is it just plain old Mac user loyalty from the days when the PC sucked?

I think the reason a lot of people used to use Mac for graphics was because of the software. It ran better on Mac. But that was years ago.

Since Microsoft started to license it's software, and people started to see potential growth, PC has increased it's software base 1000 fold. I've seen software at some 7-11's here in LA.

I've used PhotoShop 5.5 and 6.0 both on MAC and PC. There is no difference in the performance of the software. The biggest advantage of PC is it's ability to MultiTask.

The thing I hate most is on MAC if you accidently click outside the image in PhotoShop, (or any program) it fights to minimize everything, and bring up the desktop. FUCK! Then I have to wait for it to load the desktop, so that I can get back into PhotoShop.

Also, on PC I have the advantage of using the Right mouse click, and mouse whell, to speed up my working time.

On MAC, you have to almost shut down out of one program to use another. I'm a window opening fool. I always run at least 2 to 3 programs at the same time, and have a minimum of 3 of net browsers open at once. I run NT and Windows 2000 pro on two different computers, and rarely have any problems.

                    MAC SUCKS!

MrBrian, Are you talking about the game Oregon Trail? If so they have it for PCs, my son has Oregon Trail 2.

I would only buy and use a PC. The only reason I would have ever bought a Mac was for graphic design. From what I've heard they are still superior in that way, but how?

All I need is Adobe photoshop and illustrator and a few other programs. I'm not sure what a Mac can offer me that a PC can't in that department.

Besides, the difference in the number of proggies for PCs as opposed to Macs is staggering.

It used to be that Mac versions of software ran 20% to 100+% more too. *when* you could locate it (and if it was available to start with) We started with things like Autocad & Microstation that already can run 18k for PC versions.
