format c: is a real option. Maybe you got some bad sectors on your hdd, which causes the OS to move shit back and forth - slows down ...

      Stop and format the bitch.

if you're running Win2K, run chkdsk /f and see what it finds...

Before you go formatting ... try the regular culprits of poor performance ...

Delete ALL your cookies and temp files ... one of my clients had over 18'000 cookies on his computer one time ... and another 131MB of temp files .... DELETE THEM ALL !!

Now it is time for a THOROUGH ScanDisk and Defragment ..

Also ... if you have several (more than a dozen) icons on your desktop .... move them elsewhere ... the more icons your desktop has ... the shittier performance you will get ... all you need on desktop is MY COMP, MY DOCS, NETWORK NEIGHBORHOOD, RECYCLE BIN .... fewer the better ..

Disable any screen savers ... sure, they look perty, but they clog your system resources over time, and even create bad sectors on your Hard Drive ... If you are going to be away from your PC for more than 15 mins, just turn the monitor off ...

there's a program called 'ram booster' i think you can find it at download.com
one of my computers is an old 5 gb 366mhz 128mb ram and you really need to keep it clean. try removing all the unnecessary things that automatically run on start-up and on ie -> tools -> internet options -> temp int files -> settings you can set it to only save a few mb of files. the other tips given here are helpful and work too
