Does anybody know any cheap or free software to make small movie clips out of 2 minute video's

... which format are you talking about? there is avi/mpg/ra/asf/fuck_knows ...
avi: virtualdub
mpg: nofuckingidea
asf/wmf: windows media producer
ra: real audio producer
... and if you want to invest some money, get mediaclearner, I think there is a 30 day trial out somewhere, it includes all the above shown and is some really great software, but it ain´t free ... -

hmmm ... best thing to doo is get a mpg2avi converter, there are a lot of free ones out there:

... any will do, once you have an avi you could use virtualdub to split the avi into little files. just play around a little bit, but if you have no idea what codec/audiocompression/ means expect at least some days of testing until you get a decent result. but yes, virtualdub is the one you need ... enjoy !!Comment

You might give Studio DV a try. It is about $100 and does what you want. You can download a free trial from Pinnacle. It is a good one to learn with but I have not been real happy with the mpeg results. Cleaner was mentioned above and it is an awesome program but it costs about $500.
