Mpeg 1 or mpeg 2?

I am comverting some movies from avi to mpeg, but whats best to save as, mpeg 1 or 2? Whats the difference?

Ignore TheLCsaga fucking lame-ass url pasting answers. If someone
pastes a url to answer a question it means they are lazy and/or they
don't actually know the correct answer. Pasters, the new breed of idiot

Because it's the same rule that applies to anything you offer on
a web site and that rule is make it compatible for default WindowsXX
users. So if it won't play in default WMP then your losing viewers.

A user would need mpeg2 codec installed to view and mpeg2 is
not WindowsXX default included. Even if your savvy it's a bitch
for any user to locate the codec, or a player that includes the
codec, just to view one sites clips that request an mpeg2 codec.
Most users who would run across that would just say "fuck this"
and move on to another site.

mpeg-1 . mpeg-2 is the video format DVD's use and I think satellite tv. mpeg-1 is the most compatible format, 99% of people can play it.

what he said. MPEG-2 is pretty much for DVDs. MPEG-1 is what you see on all the porn sites.
