    Help! Missing d: drive?!

I noticed that my d: drive wasn't working so I opened up device manager to check the status. It says: "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)" I tried uninstalling the drive and reinstalling but that doesn't help. And I can't use the Windows XP disk because the drive won't read anything. Anybody familiar with this? Any idea what happened and what I can do to fix it?

open the device manager and try to reinstall your "IDE ATA/ATAPI controller" drivers.

You could first try right clicking on "IDE ATA/ATAPI controller" and goto "Scan for hardware changes"

ok, tried that and still no luck. i'm also unable to connect to windows updates or the dell driver installation page, which is strange cause i can load other pages with no problem. Any other ideas?
