amazon.com record day (2.1mil items ordered)

Amazon.com Inc., the world's biggest Internet retailer, said this holiday season was its busiest ever as it added sporting goods, gourmet foods, jewelry and health shops to expand its merchandise selection.
A single-day record of more than 2.1 million units ordered, or a rate of 24 items per second, was set during this holiday season, Amazon.com said.
The Seattle company is forecasting record fourth-quarter revenue and may have its first profitable year as chief executive Jeff Bezos added new shops for the holidays and gave customers more time to qualify for free shipping.
Amazon.com said it shipped more than 1 million packages on its peak shipping day and sold more than 70,000 gift certificates on Dec. 24. The Web merchant said it shipped more than 99 percent of its orders on time.

there's no point, although 2.1mil items in a day make the adult industry loook too small.

Actually, I see your point. It used to be that online porn was the only game in town in terms of traffic that converts to cash. Now, the rest of the ecommerce game is maturing and generating real money.

I hate to say it but Amazon is very good. I ordered a lot of stuff from them this Christmas. I cross-check the prices on their American, British and German sites and buy each item where it's cheapest, taking the different currencies into account. This Christmas, the weak dollar made for some great shopping.

... the adult online industrie is small, as a matter of the fact it's not even worth mentioning it on forbes etc. ... the only people that think the adult online industrie is fucking huge are adult webmasters. visa thinks a total of 0,02% of credit card transactions are adult based.

I didn't order anything from them...at least not since November. I did get some gifts on Ebay and Half.com so that evil corporation got some of my money.

how do you know? the commission amazon gives to affiliates is many times what you said per title. I doubt their own margin is that small.

They are now making money. The business model is proven to work.

                      Mainstream is off the hook.

Walmart broke the $1.3 billion in one day mark, I think they hold the record for most business done in a day.... Though online and offline is a big difference. It'd be interesting to know the dollar figure associated with amazon's big day.
