    What About Wireless?

How many of you are actually donig something to sell to the wireless crowd? What is it that you're doing, how are you doing it, is it working out well, and who are the best sponsors for this?

Whew. 'Scuse the rapid-fire questioning, but I'm really interested in this and would like to develop one of my domains into a wireless-capable domain, investment capital would be nice, if you're into this sort of thing. ICQ me about details. Otherwise answer the questions above or come up with more of your own, let's get this party started!

sms purchases are really big in europe, and there are a few sms billing companies over there.

i dont believe sms billing is available in the U.S because it probably has to go through the FCC.

also the price of internet access from cellphones is usually very high.

i had a friend hit their internet button on their cell phone without knowing it and got charged $80 for 1/2 hr

        Dayum!

Can we not use the same billing companies, though? What if the site was made specifically for handhelds, but used an AVs or some such? Would that not work?

Most of Europe is pretty strung up on wireless applications. Cell phones were a staple there when they were only a luxury here. Our communication infrastructure is built completely different.

With that in mind, would building sites around wireless be worthwhile? Just your opinion, I'm actually interested.

I don't know really. Maybe regional sites for metropolitan areas, but I think national sites would be a waste. I don't have any numbers, just a guess. The United States is too big without enough wireless connectivity yet. Hell, I live in San Diego and half of my friends can't get cell reception when they're at my house.

Good point, Sly, but are there not already companies who are doing this sort of thing? What if one could offer stuff for download that is hot sync able to PDAs?

I agree with this statement. Do you think, though, that laptops will start to be phased out as wireless handhelds become mroe popular?

Sorry, I don't think the new "topical" contests start until tomorrow or even next week...

Seriously though, I've been thinking a lot about this and I think the presentation size, the bandwidth limit, and the nature of wireless (usually very public and on the go) make it a bad venue for porn.

I'm sure there is SOMETHING there, but I can't get my puny little brain around it yet.

Oh. I should have waited to start this thread.

Seriously, though, I've been mulling this over, I've written articles,a nd I'm determined that some way, some how, I'm going to find a way to cash in on this. I think there's a damn good bit of money here, just gotta find a way to tap into it.
