Webdesigner... is it worth it ?

Hey
Im a student who's thinking about earning some extra cash. I have some skills in webdesigning, php, asp, css, jscript... etc. I have no experience in the porn/gallery bussiness yet, but as i said, i could make some neat designs just for show within a few days.

The question is: Is it worth it ?... are there too many of my kind already ? How do i get started ?

fuck webinc.com charges $1500 for thier smaller design packages. and they really arent that impressive.

There are zillions of designers out here and competition is fierce, but if you designs are good and your prices are competitive you should find some business.

My advice is to find what you're really good at and stick to it, be it tours, banners, FPAs, galleries, whatever. Specialization is always good.

Ive been in the industry since i was 16 (thanks to the assholes of the world) and if you have a chance to get a good college education do that instead because that is the sure thing. It is very expensive to own a site and unless you have the time and money it might be better to hold off. If you have your own models I'd say go for it but not if it will interfere with your school.

you're entering a seriously oversaturated field.... if you're looking to go balls out fulltime and make an impact, then you've got a long road ahead of you but it can be done.... if you're looking to make beer money, that can be done too, but it's gonna be even harder, and you're never gonna get clients that will pay you more than beer money.

Some things are not meant to be "dabbled" in for "extra money".... no one wants to entrust their business growth to someone that's not serious and only looking to buy an extra keg for the weekend.

but good luck.... my advice would be to find something you actually WANT to do long term and put all your efforts towards it.

wait... not to sound airheaded but did you want to design websites or own one? You might do great as a designer if you have competive prices (I need some avs sites designed for cheap). Can you repeat the question?

Good work, good pricing, you'll make a buck or two. Then depending on what your turn around rate for work is and how on time you are along with quality, you may do alright. Give it a shot, you got nothing to lose.

Im not looking to own a site, I just want to make the design etc. In wich I have plenty experience, though not in porn sites. Since im in the middle of an education, im not looking for a full day job.

Its hard to get jobs in webdesign when you dont have any webdesigning-education yet, and therefore im forced to do all kinds of boring jobs where i dont develop my skills in webdesign etc. But i was told that the porn bussiness wasnt so. That you dont need a paper saying "Im a webdesigner", as long as you do a good job.

Therefore I have decided to make a takeit-or-leaveit offer. Give me a challenge, and i'll do my best. If your not happy with the result, then no harm done. If you like what i made, then i wouldnt mind getting a few bucks for it. I just need some references.

Dude seriously, you have the right attitude but the wrong approach. See what other designers are charging and look at the finished product. If you can do comparable work you will get some business without a certificate. If you do better you will get as much work as you want. A gallery is simple to make, throw one or two together and show people what you got.
