    Exercise bikes

    Anyone have one? Any recommendations?

I just want a basic one. Nothing fancy, nothing too expensive.

I'm fairly tall so I need something to accomodate that, too. So it needs to be adjustable.

So if you have one or know of a good site for checking this stuff out, let me know, please.

    Thanks.

To me, them seem to be boring as hell. Better to take a brisk walk or run or go to the gym.

rent one... dont buy one.... you will probably use it heaps for the first month and then never touch it again... you'd probably be better of with a crosstrainer or a jogging machine (get a big one so that its easy to jog on)

i used to hate bikes, and much preferred steppers but i have one now that i don't mind at all and it was $140 before tax. my 6'7" fiance can ride it, so it's probably adjustable enough for you. the resistance is magnetic, so it's smooth and quiet, and my fiance is a serious mountain bike rider, but he finds it has enough resistance for him. it's also got a low setting that's very good for out of shape people.

it's a life gear. they are nobody, and it was made in korea. i got it at sportmart. they don't sell it online, just in the store.

if you have a sportmart near you, it's worth taking a peak.

How about the gazelle? is that any good? I heard it's better than running because it's low impact and not stressful on your knees/joints.

everyone i know who owns a gazelle never uses it *lol*

i really hated it for some reason - the motion was very unpleasant to me, but some people i know say they really like it. of course, none of those people are actually using it no doubt that is why there are so many on ebay ;-)

It'll gt used. Beginning of August I decided it was time to get some exercise, so I started walking a few miles 4 or 5 times a week. It's getting to be winter here which means tons of snow and freezing weather. I just need something in the house to get me through the winter until it's spring again.

FP... if you have a regular bike (or a neighbor does that you can borrow) get one of the things that holds up the back tire. They're cheap and if you can get a good 12-18 spd bike on it, they are every bit as good as a exerciser. Just about any bike shop or sports store should carry them.

Cheap exercise bikes etc are at every thrift store you go in to. Cheap and you can test them out to make sure they fit. lol One down the road had about 40 of them the other day all for 5-20 bucks.

Exercise bikes suck. I ended up fitting an ash tray to mine and it had negative fitness benefits.

You should get one of those air resistance ones, with the moveable handles. Gives you a bit of an upper body workout as well, and overall, burns more calories.
