    Wrong Number

    Wrong Number

For six years, pregnant women in Pennsylvania were offered a "mind-blowing sexual experience" when they called a state guide listing for advice about abortion and adoption. It seems the guide had transposed two digits in the telephone number and was funnelling folks to a sex line. Why did it go on so many years? "We didn't know about it," said a state health official, who wished to remain anonymous. "People didn't call up to complain." The voice on the recording says: "Yeah baby, you've reached the right place. If this is your first time, don't be shy ? If you are under 18 or do not wish to be billed just $2.99 to $4.99 a minute hang up now."

Uh, it's not like the government purposely listed a sex phone number there.

                    Too strange.

Several years ago, a city north of me published a pamphlet of 'help' numbers for people. They had my home number on it as being the "Salvation Army housing" number. I started getting calls from people who'd start going into detail about being homeless or needing a place to stay etc. I finally tracked down the correct number to give people who called and also the publisher of the pamphlet so they didn't make the same mistake twice.

also.. a local Dominos phone number has one digit different from mine. I get at least 3 or 4 calls a week for pizza. Some of the callers can be very persistent. More than once I've answered the phone for the second or third time in a row and said "Dominos can I help you?" In a couple of cases I turned around and called in their order to Dominos. One totally beligerant guy, I took his order and that was it. Strange.. he must of called the correct number when his pizza never showed.
