Anyone here using Paypal to sell his subscription/service/product? I just came across a site called paypal warning (http://www.paypalwarning.com/). Sounds pretty scary. What do you think?

I use them,
I like there setup better than most.
Very good stats, and the person who payed with them have the username and password in their own Paypal account, so they don't have to ask you all the time...
PayPal even offers a rebill option..
They will help you set it up on your server as long as you are not on a NT or win2k machine..

ya got to read the fine print! Paypal.com doesn't accept adult sites. I couldn't find the url again that explained that, but trust me they don't!

too bad because the entire process worked great for me, the script installed well and everything worked.. oh well.

I used them for Ebay sales for over a year - not a single problem *crossed fingers*, but their new rules on some ebay sales made me worry slightly about the possibility of abuse so I stopped using them.

Actually, I stopped selling on ebay alltogether - not enough money for the huge amount of work involved (at least, selling what I was selling).

Paypal are great and I use them myself all the time BUT....

having worked in their industry up until about a year ago and having done a fair amount of research while doing due dilligence on their competitors I have a fairly good idea how they work.

You need to watch what happens if you get alot of chargebacks. There have been issues with people having all the funds in their accounts frozen due with very long resolution times. Its worse if you piss a customer off and they make a complaint to Paypal. Once your account is frozen you can still receive funds but you wont get them unless the problems are rectified.

I believe their customer service is getting better but still understaffed. There systems generally work and everything is well documented but if you do have a problem you may have problems getting it rectified.

I would definatley never let a large amount of funds accumulate in your PayPal account.

Finally, I am really waiting for PayPal to ban adult sites. Their merchant rates are too low and if they start getting chargebacks at the level normal processors of adult sites do I cant see their banks keeping their merchant rates at their current level. The benefit is they have a lot of other transactions to water the adult transactions down but conversley they have zero margin to play with if the banks get nasty and I cant see them wanting to lift rates across the board.

Sorry for the long post, summary is they are great but understand how they work and use them with caution.

But there's always a lot of risk involved with a money losing organization ...

GotGauge & Hungryman , it took me like 3 weeks to get a response from paypal in regards to accepting adult site, it didn't mention anything about being a 'decent' site, who's to say what is decent and what isn't?

Hungryman, yes I have an account as well and I used them for sometime, but it wasn't until later I discovered "Allowable Goods and Services Guidebook for PayPal Shops"
and then I stopped using them, didn't want to screw my members if anything were to happen.
It's clear they don't want adult sites, I wouldn't risk getting your account frozen or something like that and screwing and or losing members.

I would be one of the complaints, I sold a copy of Blitz through Paypal to a pirate - he immediately charged back as soon as he receieved it, and Visa of course let him.. There was nothing Paypal could do - pretty risky for my line of work, so I stopped using them. I have no experience using them for an adult site..

Yes Paypay is "losing money" right now They have DELIBERATELY slowed their incoming revenue, allowing them to put an IPO in place ...

This is a VERY common tactic to raise the funds needed to expand, in a VERY LARGE CORPORATION, and by no means suggests that they are in financial difficulties ...

It seems to me that this thread was covered almost VER BAITEM in a post a few weeks ago ?!?

Anyways ... I would be more worried about the future of "IBILL" than the future of Paypal ... Paypal I can assure you will be around alot longer ...

No shit. I am worried about IBILL big time. I have been with them since they opened shop years ago but now I wonder.

One thing that pisses me off is all these emails users send about not being able to use IBILL but they can use other processors. So for every 1 email like that, how many did not email?

I have been using PayPal for well over a year and I have never had any problems with them. This article states that no one ever gets back to them and they can't ever get in touch with them on the phone.

I recently got a debit card with them and have been using it and still haven't had any concerns. I particularly liked that they even called me on the phone when I made a major purchase to make sure it was me that had done this because it wasn't the typical size transaction....... so they are on top of their security as well. Some people would probably take offense by such a call, but it made me a little bit more secure with them because it goes to show they do pay attention and they do take care of their customers.

I have nothing but good to say about PayPal. As far as their not taking adult sites, that is pretty clearly stated in their terms so if ya get in shit with them on that level then you have no one to blame but yourself on that one. LOL

ALWAYS read those TOS, they will bite you in the damn ass if you don't.

Wow, I didn't expect so many replies. Thank you guys. Paypal sounds good and has the function I need. I don't know what kind of service is provided by c2it. It is backed by a real bank and could be more reliable. I am not going to use Paypal for subscription, just one time billing. And I will not leave large amount of money in paypal account for sure!
