2. roll out a small but well paying program 3 yrs ago.
3. pay on time
4. never be in a position to be put out of business by YOUR sponsor
5. spend your entire 4 years of online life studying cheaters

as someone who is lauinching a click through program, I can agree with with what Ron says...I'm a bit fucked on the 3 years ago but have been around enough ;))
something else I would add to what Ron says is be sure to have a bankroll when you start, don't expect to pay people out of incoming sponsor checks, because if a sponsor goes belly up or pays late or <cough>gets shut down by the ftc</cough> you could get majorly fucked....if you're going to be reselling to established sponsors, you'd better work out pre-pays or better yet, just keep sending your own traffic, take all the money you make and keep it in the bank so you have some reserves. If you're moving major traffic, you'd better make sure your hosting is tops...no cheapass resellers, but a good host that will always be up...this isn't like a host for your TGP's, you need a company that is top notch...you also need amazing software (ours is custom and about 80% of the programming involved was fr thwarting/slowing down cheaters...be prepared to get cheated worse than any circle jerk trade you've ever been a part of...if reselling to another sponsor, you'd better make sure you can convert/filter the traffic...
even with all this, go out get drunk, punch yourself in the face with a pipewrench, then set your testicles on fire...if you're still motivated to move after that, you MIGHT be ready to THINK about opening a click program ;)))

I mean, it's great for the webmaster, but I can't see how the sponsor is making bank off click thrus...

titmowse, basically, it's made in volume and filtering....most people sending traffic to per click programs (especially blind) can't convert the traffic themselves or would just rather have that per click payout, but the reseller usally makes their profit on filtering that traffic heavily and/or send it to sites that aren't seen by every surfer on worldsex and the hun....(usually their own)...but I'm sure margins would be much better without cheaters and hitbotters and I'm sure 12clicks could elaborate more on that...but believe me, if they know what they are doing, they're making bank or will be panhandling in front of one ;)))
