What are the best solutions (in your experiences) for cutting down on spam.

I currently have some outlook filters in place but I'm looking for more ideas.

I am getting fairly annoyed with it now too, there is some new drug reseller program, selling vicodin and I am getting 100 emails a day for that alone.

well .. if you admin your own unix based servers, spamassasin is your solution.

ok, if you don't want to go THAT far, then just use a nice upgraded/bought yahoo mail account, their bulk filters are REALLY quite nice and you can have that crap forwarded to whatever other account you want...I know a few people that use it and love it...




on a side note, the title of this thread made me think the PJester wanted to do some mailing ;)

do you auto-delete emails with attachements in outlook? if not you should becausethat cuts down my spam from 1000/day to less than 100

spamassassin (http://www.spamassassin.org) is definatley the way to go, but you have to have shell access to your mail server to set it up.
i've been using it for years, i get about 500-700 spams per day. all of them get filtered and only about 1 every 4 days or so gets by (and those i move to a folder called spam to learn which i run a program that comes with spamassassin to teach spamassassin that those emails are actually spam)

as for good email getting filtered....
well in the past year only 1 good email got marked as spam.
and the ************ emails got marked as spam but i just set up that email address as a valid email address and it gets thorugh.

the best way to get rid of spam is to not buy anything off of it. because face it, the people on this board that spam only do it because it makes them so much money. so people are buying. but if nobody responded to spam nobody would waste their time doing it.
