Eight people were injured in an accident involving a rollercoaster ride at the Royal Melbourne Show today, with five taken to hospital.
Spokesman James Howe said five children aged between 4 and 17 were taken to hospital with neck and chest injuries, while three others were treated at the scene.
"It was treated seriously. Anything concerning the neck is taken very seriously," he said.
All people hurt on the ride were in a stable condition, he said.
He said it took ambulance officers about an hour to get the injured off the Mad Mouse ride after two cars collided about 2pm (AEST).
Early estimates had placed the number of injured at 12.
"They were in some pain with head and neck injuries," Mr Howe said.
"The main concern was getting them off safely. We had to do it slowly and carefully to minimise the risk of further injury."
Mr Howe said 12 people were on the ride when the accident happened.
