    Very Serious Problem....

I'm having a very serious problem here that i cannot resolve... The other night, out of no where, i was having problems FTPing into my dedicated server, here are the details...

the error i get is... "425 possible PASV port theft, cannot open data connection" .. basically i connect to the server via FTP but i can't pull a directory listing or file listing "! Retrieve of folder listing failed (4)"...

-Everyone on my network gets the same problem, but people outside my network can connect via FTP without a problem.

-I have no problem connecting to any other servers via FTP...

This is driving me crazy cause i can't get any work done.. if anyone has a solution or idea of what the problem is please help! Thanks!

The ftpd server is returning the 425 response because the source ip
address used to open the ftp control connection is not the same as the ip
address supplied for the data connection, so the connection is refused.

They probably patched or installed a new FTPd program and now they have problems with xinetd.

You said dedicated. wiZd0m is telling you they=where the server is.
Are you running that box yourself? Are you admin'ing the ftp server
            yourself?

Unplug your router, or shut off zonealarm, when you ftp
then you never have to worry about pasv.

well no, i'm not running the server myself, and i did talk to my hosting company today and they aren't sure what the problem is. like i said other people can connect on other networks, but for some reason i can't.. but i CAN connect to other servers... this is why i'm pulling my hair out with this one.. it's just really odd that this would happen out of no where...

Well you don't know how their setup is over there. The server
your having probs with either had a ftp server upgrade or
somebody config'd the ftp server for some port protection.

That's assuming you are talking about all these servers are
                at the same place.

Either way it's protection, on their end, to make your account safe.
The only fix at their end makes your ftp access a wide-open door
for anybody that wants in and knows how.

Just do your ftp'ing at that server from a machine that has no
router or firewall and all should be fine. Get in...do your stuff
                ...get out. Shitty, but necessary.

when i said i could ftp into other servers i didn't mean ones that were located in the same place.. just establishing the fact that my problem isn't with my ftp client... i just don't understand how i can ftp in with no problem for months then out of the blue i get this error and no one i've talked to knows what's going on... and it is just occuring on the computer network i'm on... why would it just block me from ftping into one server... it's just really odd... and again this is why it is very frustrating.. especially when this is my business and i can't get files updated...

whoever is admining your server is a stupid fuck if they can't find the problem.
Find out what ftpd server they are running, get the docs for it and fix it yourself.

Ok, you have to understand the software they serve your ftp is serving
hundreds, maybe thousands, of other clients. They made changes
at their end and aren't about to reconfig their end because of 3 or 4 guys
bitchin'. The standard reply is deny. Only if they get too many people,
behind walls, bitchin' will they be forced to address that issue.
and it is just occuring on the computer network i'm on...
why would it just block me from ftping into one server... it's just really odd...
S'not odd. If they host porn they are porn ppl. With recent events like
CCbill's "thing" somebody at your ded got active with tightening loose spots.
If your server gets "wang'd", they got probs. BW, reconfig, wipeout-reset-reconfig,
tons of work they don't want to do if there is a security prob. FPX. ftpd, wu_ftp etc
all have probs with port verification and clients behind walls. It's one or the
other...secure and bitchin Webmasters, or open and pants down. They just don't
have the balls to tell you to ftp without a wall cause then your pants will be
                      down while your ftping.

ok.. so you believe that the problem is server-side... but when i use a friend's computer that is outside the network i'm on i have no problem FTPing in... why would this be so?
