PHP encoders - Ioncube or Zend?

    Anyone have exp with either?

Ioncube looks like it has better performance.

Do hosting companies complain about installing the loaders?

We use Zend and we like it, never tried the other, I think Zend is more popular too.

Isn't Zend Optimizer free? I think he means Zend Encoder..

Never used either but I would go with Zend.

You need the optimizer to run the encoded code..

If it is more popular, it means a bigger consumer base, and less people worrying about installing something that is not as much known

Hi goBigtime, I'm using Zend Encoder..

It works great, but never tried ION tough.. As you know basic version just encodes scripts, you may either need to get Safeguard suite to use licensing features or code licensing yourself..

Zend Optimizer is more widely avaliable/trusted and most of the cases it's already installed.

              I hope that helps.

                Ioncube is the bomb!

Much cheaper in price and does a great job. Get the "full version" which does include the restriction features.

Go with Zend. Zend are the people who created the current php and are still developing it. they know their stuff and are really nice. they seem to know better than anybody how the engine works, considering they created it.

Zend is definately supported better by hosting companies (Zend Optimizer). Though I don't think you even need root to install the Ioncube loaders. Also, as far as I know Ioncube encoded software can be cracked easier than Zend.

                      How so?

Can you point us to a URL or anything on the web that would suggest this?

Because I've searched high & low for decoders/decompilers for both Zend & Ioncube to help me make a purchasing decision.

Anyway IonCube uses bytecode encryption just like Zend. Maybe if you are really good at crypto stuff you can extract some key jibberish, but I doubt you are going to decompile fully commented reuseable source code.

I have read a lot of articles that suggest they are both very good.

The benchmarks on the IonCube site also suggest the performance is better than Zend as well.

I think considering that all we need right now is an encoder that supports time expirations and locking down the application by ip/hostname, and considering the price differences between the two... for now we will try IonCube.

goBigtime, good luck with IonCube, it would be great if you can post your experiences with it.

Does it has time expirations and locking down the application by ip/hostname by default?

ps. I've tried to reply you few times @ ICQ but no luck. I'm not sure if my msges went thru ok.

Hmm strange... ICQ me now if you want.

I think the basic IonCube encoder is like $199.. then if you want to expire by date, or lock down by IP/Host, its $50 more, and then if you want to add locking down to MAC address (a NIC card basically) then its $349 total... I think.

The $250 package will be fine for me . I don't need to lock anything down by MAC.

I've been using the ionCube online encoder for about a year now and it works great. Nick from ionCube provides awesome support too. The only disadvantage I can see with ionCube is that it's more likely a server would have Zend Optimizer installed as opposed to the ionCube Loader . In any case, the ionCube Loader is extremely easy to install and both loaders will co-exist.

                                Dave.

Sweet.... thanks for all the opinions.

I think we're going to give IonCube a whirl & see how it goes.
