When they work they work really well.
Mine has been operational full time for over a year and half now.

However, when some Unix guru (i'm not) include my IP's in his wildcard *.config ...

I had to sit in their chat room and post
"It's now 46 hours and 45 minutes" since my 24 support question has been submitted and my site is still not operational after initial installation.

Now they have a "LivePerson" type chat room using PHP ...
not sure if I like that.

        Good Luck ...
hope you get it resolved quick.

I have one server on Rackshack and so far it's been rocking. *knock*

            7:20pm up 150 days, 19:04, 1 user, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

Not too much load on it though.

If anybody has any problems with their RS server, especially with Ensim, feel free to contact me.

I used to have some stuff on Rackshack. I left because they suck so very very much.

I'm at Webair now. They're good to me.
Host it in AMSTERDAM at EUROTIVITY! - We also offer BACKUP SERVICES!

Well, the problem had been fixed and the server is up. RackShack is a great hosting ptovider, except the one thing - customers have to fight against attacks only on their own behalf, but it seems to be a common practice on dedicated. Even if a server is a fully managed, the protection is very simple or it costs too much.

The main issue with Rackshack these days is security. Their IP ranges are scanned every day by evil doers. If you have a vulnerable machine you will lose it.

Uh, Rackshack servers are self-managed. If you are not doing updates every week, right, you shouldn't have one.

That's my point. RS is like a happy feeding ground for scripters, you have to be extra vigilant.

That is true. And if you consider that most people hosting at rackshack are moderately clueless (still using ftp for example) its even scarier. The scammers have only to setup a password sniffer on eth0 and suck out all their neighbor's root passwords, even the so-called secure ones because their idiot webmasters are sending usernames in plain text.

Still, they have gotten better and better about managing a nightmare, pulling the plugs quickly on servers launching dos attacks, etc.

I would never recommend RS for anyone except a serious Linux admin or somebody with one on call.

Amazingly, in the years I have been hosting there I've still had better uptime and service than any so-called "managed" solution though.
