    HELP !!!!!!!

I was having some soundbvlaster driver troubles ... so I went and downloaded the latest drivers and installed .... but the4 troubles still existed ...

I tried to reinstall my Win2000 over top of itself, and I am getting this FATAL ERROR that cannot find D:\I386\NT5INF.CAT

now my main PC is totally fucked !!
I cannot use my Win98 rescue floppy on it, as there is no FAT32 partition anymore.

How can I "reverse" the instalation and go back to my original installation ???

Please do not tell me to format C:
There must be a way to reverse it ... I know there is, only I don't know how to do it

Poor Babe - that's you and me both today! lol
..all my trouble started when I downloaded new Real Player and after i got new IE it was completely fucked!

The thing I hate the most is that you have to install win 98 first then install Win 2002

babe- sounds like you just got no choice:

      Format c:

Format C: is not going to help him. Get real !

He needs format D: (he said: FATAL ERROR that cannot find D:\I386\NT5INF.CAT)

I've said it again and again...you must not let your machine think it is the Alpha in your relationship. Pour a Coca-Cola in the monitor, pound on the side of your case, and scream, "You're next, motherfucker!"...once you buy a new monitor, it will have learned who is in charge, and you'll never have to re-boot again.

Actually, I don't think he can even run format d: like that. I believe your going to have to run a debug script first then fdisk and then format

You're fucked bro.... Hook the drive up to another machine as a slave so you can copy your data over.... then put it back in the original machine, then fdisk it, format the drive, install your old OS, and run the upgrade again. Once you're back to a working OS, either link the two machines together to copy your data back again, or hook it up as a slave again and copy it.

                Sorry....

If you have a SoundBlaster card try unplugging it, but before you do disable it in Windows. If you don't have a Card and it on the mother board, go into you bios setup
and disable it. Maybe this will help you some.
Also Amp is right I'd don't that before
I did very much screwing around, if you want to keep all your stuff.

Bye the way I hope you know to turn tha computer off before unpluging the sound card.

you should be able to install into a new directory, can be on the same partition. you'll need setup disks, and you should make a boot disk and modify the boot.ini file. you should keep a boot and erd disk and understand how boot.ini works. you can get instructions on this stuff at www.microsoft.com/support - search Windows 2000 for "boot disk", "boot failure", etc.

once you get the second install up, you can attempt to fix the first install, or just use the second install, but it means starting from scratch and some leftover system files, but no data lost.

As a MCSE consultant, I'm advising all of you to not install software until the first service pack is released, at least not on a production machine.

It was an upgrade disk qc.... not gonna work in Hungry's case. He was trying to run the install over the previous upgrade again and it jacked him up. He's gonna hafta run the upgrade from the old OS again. And we all know what that means.

I'm not sure if running a full install disk will save him or not, but definitely got nothin' to lose now by trying.

d: is the cd drive and you might have a damaged win2k install disk in there.
