although i prefer the more detailed anime artwork

Hmmm... I am not sure about the style, but it looks pretty "anime" for me.
Maybe it's the face with shut eyes that makes you think it's not anime. People usually recognise such content looking at eyes. Eyes are pretty distinctive and make anime look like anime.

His arm looks like it is broken and your shadows are coming from a few different light sources. (Look at his shirt vs her dress). They're casting shadows in the opposite direction. The style is a bit 'smooth' but otherwise not too bad.

The lines appear a lil harsh as well.

K well your on the right tracks i'll tell you that much.
I agree that the arms are a little off.. and the face is a bit big to call it anime I believe.. but thats just my opinion ^&^
