    Quick SE question

Lets say you have one domain whatever.com and one domain whatever.us or .biz

Both have the same html with keywords, does this make any difference for the se's at all?

Less hits than a .com domain?

    Thanks.

If you have 2 sites with the same html code and pages - one will be Ignored, and the other indexed by the search engine.

.com .biz whatever tld - it doesnt matter

In general, the TLD should not make a difference, but this is not always true. For example, I'm from Canada and doing a search for a company that has a .com and .ca, I *might* get the .ca domain first because Google's identified me as being from Canada. A lot of SE's are starting to regionalize their search results now I've noticed so it might depend. In general, I would say that it wouldn't matter though, I've rarely seen the case above.

That's very difficult to answer really since it depends on a slew of factors such as backlinks, pagerank, etc etc...

To best answer, let me give you an example. I have a domain which is hosted in Texas on Rackspace, it was ranked #13 here when I did a search (I'm in Canada). Now, going through a proxy located in the states, doing the exact same search on Google showed it was ranked #2. This is the only case I've seen it happening and I'm rather baffled to be honest but it does kind of hint towards regional listings.

Walrus> The example was referring to two domains of the same name with different TLD's. I have seen tons of new german and latin results in the SERP's lately as well.

Don't create multiple pages, subdomains, or domains with substantially duplicate content.
Avoid "doorway" pages created just for search engines, or other "cookie cutter" approaches such as affiliate programs with little or no original content.

So they will ban you for this?

The idea is to ensure you have unique content, you can still use templates to generate your pages, but ensure that each page is somewhat unique still. For example, Submitcorner.com is my resource site and it's all templated, but yet Google recognizes that each page is different and not the same even though a lot of the same images and text are use on the top and both sides. By doing this, your pages won't get tripped up on the automated filters.

The harder filter which isn't really possible to get around is the human one. People who find out you've got top rankings and you're using doorways that passed the automated filters will rat your ass to Google and they may ban or penalize you for that. Classic example is the .biz/.info spammer from a few weeks ago and web4x's fiasco of telling us all about him every time he got new domains.
