    Server Hosting questions

    questions regarding a dedicated server.

I need a couple of common hosting SPEC's clarified please.

    What is the difference (performance wise) between a Pentium 4,, 1.1 g ,,,, and a Pentium 4,, 2.4g ?

What is the difference (performance wise) between 500 gigs and 800 gigs of transfer?

Would those two effect the speed of the server?
or is it all about the line out eg: T1 compared to a 256 modem?

You wont see a difference in cpu if you dont use all of your resources. But obviously the more CPU you have the more processes can be running using it without slowing down the system. More CPU = good for systems that run alot of MySQL queries.

The amount of transfer just lets you know how much you can do before you start paying overage fees which are usually more but it doesnt tell you anything about performance. Performance wise you should clarify in megabits since it lets you know how much traffic you can push at any given moment, which give the amount of gigs per month doesnt state clearly.

Hit me up on icq at 36837470 if you need more stuff explained, I could also give you some great deals on a dedicated server.

    Take care

    Take Luck!

For anything less than a few thousand gigs it's not going to matter what your CPU is, really. A T1 is 1.544 megabits which roughtly translates into about 480 theoretical gigs if you filled up that whole pipe for 30 days straight. Performance wise you won't notice anything between 500 and 800 gigs.

      Good luck!

For that small of transfer more than likely you won't notice a difference. WE have some old P3's pushing 20 + Mbps and doing just fine. But let me add if you dont know, or the company you are hosting with doesn't know how to set up a server properly to handle your traffic you will notice a difference.

This is not something that will affect performance...just your check book at the end of the month.
